  20. If you have Windows 3.1 or 3.0 with multi-media extensions, we
  21. recommend use of our Toolbook navigation system.  Details for use of
  22. this software follow this section.

  24. To start using this disc, type "WILDPLAC" at the CD-ROM drive's
  25. DOS prompt.  If you do not have 512K of video memory, use the
  26. "LOWRES" batch file by typing "LOWRES" at the CD-ROM drive's DOS
  27. prompt.  This will display files in 320 x 200 x 256 colors.  You
  28. will need a Sound Blaster card or 100% compatible to hear the
  29. music.

  51. The disc you have in your CD-ROM drive contains two complete
  52. versions of World View (tm), one for Macintosh, the other for
  53. PC.  Your CD-ROM driver is smart enough to figure out which one
  54. you view, so sit back and enjoy.

  58. There are 100 high quality images and 100 sound tracks stored on
  59. this disc.  Images are stored in several formats for your
  60. convenience:
  61.  
  62. 1.  24-bit TIF, in 640 x 480 format, for high resolution paint 
  63. programs and desktop publishing, in the TIFF directory.
  64.  
  65. 2.  8-bit PCX, 640 x 480 format, for most DOS paint programs, in the
  66. PCX directory.
  67.  
  68. 3.  8-bit BMP, 640 x 480 format, for compatibility with Windows, in
  69. the BMPLARGE directory.
  70.  
  71. 4.  8-bit BMP, 320 x 240 format, for high speed viewing, in the 
  72. BMPSMALL directory.

  74. Audio is 22 Khz, 8-bit, stored as follows:
  75.  
  76. 1.  WAV format in the WAVE directory, for MPC compatibility.
  77.  
  78. 2.  VOC format in the SNDBLAST directory, for compatibility with
  79. Sound Blaster audio cards.

  81. You may use the IMAGE ALCHEMY shareware program for two weeks
  82. without registering the software and paying the fee.  Please
  83. note, this program works well on all 640 x 480 or smaller
  84. images.  It offers many fine capabilities, such as
  85. conversion between many different formats, including Mac and PC,
  86. and it should find a home in your imaging utilities directories.
  87. The registered version will handle images larger than 640 x 480.
  88.  
  89. A navigational HyperPAD application called "WILDPLAC" has been
  90. included to help find your way through the files.  The TAB key
  91. moves through the fields, ENTER selects.  The mouse is also
  92. supported.  Best display quality is obtained with Super VGA
  93. video boards with 512K of video memory.  Most mainstream video boards
  94. are supported, but there are new one's every day.  The best solution
  95. to this problem is to use our Windows version.  Sound may be played if
  96. you have a Sound Blaster card -- just select the Sound button in
  97. the HyperPAD interface.  Remember, the PC was not designed as a
  98. multi-media machine, and so this interface is not as "robust" as
  99. we would prefer.
  100.  
  101. Audio is stored in the WAVE directory in Microsoft's WAV
  102. format, as well as in VOC format in the SNDBLAST directory.
  103. This sound has been tested with MPC compatible sound boards and
  104. is of a quality high enough (22 Khz, mono) for multi-media
  105. presentations.  You must have an MPC compatible sound board with
  106. speaker or headphone to hear the WAV files.  The Mediavision Pro
  107. Spectrum and the Sound Blaster Professional sound boards were
  108. used in the development of this product.  They were easy to
  109. install and both worked well.

  111. Windows Users - Navigational Software
  112. -------------------------------------
  113.  
  114. Every attempt has been made to provide MPC compatible content,
  115. both in images (BMP format) and sound (WAV format).  A
  116. navigational program created with Toolbook can be found in the root
  117. directory of the disc.  You may install the software to the hard drive
  118. by using the SETUP.EXE program, or you may run the WILD.EXE file 
  119. through Window's File Manager right from the CD-ROM disc.
  120. The choice is yours.  Hard disk installation provides better performance,
  121. however, it will add about 1.5 MB of files to your hard drive.
  122. Buttons in the book may be used with a mouse, or with the TAB (which moves
  123. around the app) and Enter key (to select a highlighted button).

  125. Keep in mind the following requirements for Windows users:
  126.  
  127. 1.  You must have Windows version 3.1 or version 3.0 with the 
  128. multi-media extensions.
  129.  
  130. 2.  You must have an MPC compatible sound card to use the sound. Boards
  131. from Creative Labs (the SoundBlaster Pro), Media Vision (Pro Audio 
  132. Spectrum), and other vendors have been tested for compatibility with
  133. this product.

  135. 3.  Pictures work best with the 256 color 640 x 480 Windows driver.
  136. These are available direct from the video board manufacturer.  Aris
  137. does not supply these.  You must have 512K of video RAM for this 
  138. feature to work.
