**** Welcome to Aris Entertainment's Wild Places(tm) ****
Thank you for your purchase. Your Aris disc was created by some
of the leading professionals in the CD-ROM field with two goals
in mind: first, to deliver an outstanding value, and second, to
make content easily available for use in presentations, productions,
or even as wallpaper on your Windows desktop.

DOS USERS
---------
If you have Windows 3.1 or 3.0 with multi-media extensions, we
recommend use of our Toolbook navigation system. Details for use of
this software follow this section.
To start using this disc, type "WILDPLAC" at the CD-ROM drive's
DOS prompt. If you do not have 512K of video memory, use the
"LOWRES" batch file by typing "LOWRES" at the CD-ROM drive's DOS
prompt. This will display files in 320 x 200 x 256 colors. You
will need a Sound Blaster card or 100% compatible to hear the
music.

you have used in the credit section of your product or
presentation, or in the case of print reproduction, adjacent to
the image.
The disc you have in your CD-ROM drive contains two complete
versions of World View (tm), one for Macintosh, the other for
PC. Your CD-ROM driver is smart enough to figure out which one
you view, so sit back and enjoy.
********** Files on this disc **********
There are 100 high quality images and 100 sound tracks stored on
this disc. Images are stored in several formats for your
convenience:
1. 24-bit TIF, in 640 x 480 format, for high resolution paint
programs and desktop publishing, in the TIFF directory.
2. 8-bit PCX, 640 x 480 format, for most DOS paint programs, in the
PCX directory.
3. 8-bit BMP, 640 x 480 format, for compatibility with Windows, in
the BMPLARGE directory.
4. 8-bit BMP, 320 x 240 format, for high speed viewing, in the
BMPSMALL directory.
Audio is 22 Khz, 8-bit, stored as follows:
1. WAV format in the WAVE directory, for MPC compatibility.
2. VOC format in the SNDBLAST directory, for compatibility with
Sound Blaster audio cards.
You may use the IMAGE ALCHEMY shareware program for two weeks
without registering the software and paying the fee. Please
note, this program works well on all 640 x 480 or smaller
images. It offers many fine capabilities, such as
conversion between many different formats, including Mac and PC,
and it should find a home in your imaging utilities directories.
The registered version will handle images larger than 640 x 480.
A navigational HyperPAD application called "WILDPLAC" has been
included to help find your way through the files. The TAB key
moves through the fields, ENTER selects. The mouse is also
supported. Best display quality is obtained with Super VGA
video boards with 512K of video memory. Most mainstream video boards
are supported, but there are new one's every day. The best solution
to this problem is to use our Windows version. Sound may be played if
you have a Sound Blaster card -- just select the Sound button in
the HyperPAD interface. Remember, the PC was not designed as a
multi-media machine, and so this interface is not as "robust" as
we would prefer.
Audio is stored in the WAVE directory in Microsoft's WAV
format, as well as in VOC format in the SNDBLAST directory.
This sound has been tested with MPC compatible sound boards and
is of a quality high enough (22 Khz, mono) for multi-media
presentations. You must have an MPC compatible sound board with
speaker or headphone to hear the WAV files. The Mediavision Pro
Spectrum and the Sound Blaster Professional sound boards were
used in the development of this product. They were easy to
install and both worked well.
Windows Users - Navigational Software
-------------------------------------
Every attempt has been made to provide MPC compatible content,
both in images (BMP format) and sound (WAV format). A
navigational program created with Toolbook can be found in the root
directory of the disc. You may install the software to the hard drive
by using the SETUP.EXE program, or you may run the WILD.EXE file
through Window's File Manager right from the CD-ROM disc.
The choice is yours. Hard disk installation provides better performance,
however, it will add about 1.5 MB of files to your hard drive.
Buttons in the book may be used with a mouse, or with the TAB (which moves
around the app) and Enter key (to select a highlighted button).
Keep in mind the following requirements for Windows users:
1. You must have Windows version 3.1 or version 3.0 with the
multi-media extensions.
2. You must have an MPC compatible sound card to use the sound. Boards
from Creative Labs (the SoundBlaster Pro), Media Vision (Pro Audio
Spectrum), and other vendors have been tested for compatibility with
this product.
3. Pictures work best with the 256 color 640 x 480 Windows driver.
These are available direct from the video board manufacturer. Aris
does not supply these. You must have 512K of video RAM for this
feature to work.
